Abstract

Online device information is more useful when online devices such as actual devices in e.g. a plant are associated with project devices (virtual devices). Thus, the gathering of online device information has to be processed very quickly and reliably. Up to now, protocols based on sequential processing are used to get the online device information. In general, the applications meant for the device management maintain catalogue information about the devices which are used in the plant. Therefore, the user can model the project devices and uses later a mapping to the real devices in the plant. If there are many devices in the plant, the user has to keep track of all devices and the mapping from the project device to the real device has to be carried out manually. However, this can lead to an incorrect mapping as well as it is difficult to keep track of all devices in the plant.

Therefore, a novel solution is proposed which improves the information gathering as well as the

mapping mechanism. In regard to the information gathering, the following procedure is proposed (see
