Abstract

The invention provides a prime mover for moving C-arms. In an embodiment, the prime mover gives motorized floor travel specifically to existing mobile x-ray equipment. Defining different interfaces based on weight class or applications would allow the device to exclude certain vendors while serving those in the target market

A MOBIE PRIME MOVER FOR IMAGING DEVICES

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0001]         This invention generally relates to movable imaging systems.  More particularly, it relates to a prime mover for moving C-Arm imaging devices. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002]               Some of the healthcare equipments, especially imaging systems such as C-arms are heavy and it is difficult and cumbersome to maneuver them around the hallways, especially over carpet. Also it is close to impossible for the

Mobile

to be pushed or pulled by one large person over a 5-degree ramp.

[0003]               Several devices are used to move large loads such as shopping carts.  The idea of using a tractor to push or pull a trailer exists in the industry, but no integrated docking type device has been identified in the medical equipment area.   Another solution suggests a hospital bed mover and a wheelchair mover plus varieties of moving devices, but these are specific to those items only.  No one has any device specifically aimed at moving C-arms or similar medical equipment, especially in connection with an integrated docking design.

[0004]        Thus there exists a need to provide a method and system for moving a C-arm device in a hospital environment.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0005]          In an embodiment, a prime mover for C-arm is suggested. The Mobile Prime Mover (MPM) is a single-person operated, battery powered transporter with four wheels that is used to provide forward or reverse motion assist to a mobile piece of x-ray medical equipment. When detached from the equipment, the MPM can be independently manned into motion and be maneuvered via control handles by a personnel riding on a platform in a standing position. The device is designed to provide sufficient power to propel the mobile equipment over a variety of floor surfaces, including carpet.  The device would also provide braking sufficient to hold the equipment while parked on a ramp.
