Abstract

Shortcuts are very useful and popular when using computer. A little arrow attached to a icon means that it's a shortcut icon. But in this way it can only tell us it's a shortcut, cannot show the different status of a shortcut. Our idea is a new shortcut format which can make the shortcut icons smart, tell us more information about the program's status

This text was extracted from a PDF file.
At least one non-text object (such as an image or picture) has been suppressed.
This is the abbreviated version, containing approximately 54% of the total text.

1. Background: What is the problem solved by your invention? Describe known solutions to this problem(if any). What are the drawbacks of such known solutions, or why is an additional solution required? Cite any relevant technical documents or references.

What's the problem we have?
Shortcuts are very useful and popular when using computer. A little arrow attached to a icon means that it's a shortcut icon. But in this way it can only tell us it's a shortcut, cannot show the different status of a shortcut.

Example 1:

There is a shortcut for IPMSG.exe on your desktop. When you delete the file IPMSG.exe, then double click the shortcut. The shortcut cannot open the object file. The problem is you cannot get information that the shortcut is invalid from the shortcut icon itself.

In fact, a shortcut have many status,

valid : it means the shortcut can link to the object file.
invalid : it means the object file has been moved or deleted, so the link cannot link to it. Hot : it means users use it for many times, it's a hot icon
little use : it means users use it for few times.

Open or not: it means the program has been opened or not
Use network or not:it means the program need network or not
As a matter of fact,

we need the status information from shortcut icons, but now we can get nothing, as the below screen shot shows.

what status does a shortcut has?
