The electronic workplace of today is filled with many conveniences to allow employees to collaborate with each other. Some workplace environments allow employees ready access to each other through real time communications known as "Instant Messaging". Instant messaging

provides an excellent substitute for short telephone conversations in which minimal to moderate

amounts of information are to be related between conversants.

In addition to one-on-one conversations, instant messaging also provides users with the feature to redirect instant message sent to the targeted user to other user(s), if the targeted user is not responding within a predefined amount of time. Currently, the redirection mechanism allow sender user to set a redirection list. The redirection list contains the list of users to whom sender user wants to redirect the sent message. Sender user can set the time limit after which he wants to redirect the sent message. When the recipient user fails to reply within that time limit, the redirection mechanism fetch the redirection list and redirects the message to the listed user. The redirection mechanism also allows recipient user to directly redirect instant messages to other users in case he/she is busy and does not want to receive those messages.

The redirection feature provided by the current IM system has many shortcomings namely:

1. Location specific selection and display of redirection list is not possible. For example: Consider that we have User A who is a project lead for Project A. The developers of project A sits at multiple locations. If User A works from different locations(depend on project issues), then selecting and displaying redirection list based on User A's current location is not possible.
2. Day specific selection and display of redirection list is not possible. For example: Consider that we have User A who is a project lead for Project A. The developers of project A sits at 2 different locations. If User A has a fix schedule of working from first loc...
