ABSTRACT

The invention is a mobile telephony device with an integrated a micro projector that, when housed in a dashboard cradle switches to and projects an alternate UI  ( customized for in-car relevant applications and associated display constraints) as a HUD (Head Up Display) onto a car windshield.

PROBLEM

This is a new feature for mobile phones. It will enable drivers to view phone information e.g. incoming call, text messages, time/date information and even navigation information on their windscreen while driving. This will enhance the hands free operation.

At the moment the only hands free option we have got while driving is to use a wired or wireless headset. However the user still has to look at his mobile phone to check an incoming call or read a text message. With phones that have sat-nav capability it makes things more complex as the user has to keep looking at the phone screen for directions.
With this feature the user would be able to look at all this information while keeping his focus on the road ahead

Heads Up display technology is being used in aviation industry for quite sometime and has recently been introduced in automotive industry.  However these systems are optimized for use in the particular vehicle for which they are designed. Similarly in mobile phone industry, some manufacturers have announced products that will use projectors to display a movie or what’s being displayed on their mobile screen on an appropriate surface.

However these advancements are happening in two different technology sectors.
