Abstract

The invention consists of a plastic lens that has a phosphor coating deposited on the inside. This coating is comprised of a specific blend of phosphor that will work in concert with UV LEDs to provide a specific CCT and CRI or with a common white LED to boost its CRI to a level desired by the customer. The lens also acts as a diffuser to eliminate unwanted hot spots of light created on the target, typical of point light sources such as LEDs.

BRIEF DISCRIPTION OF INVENTION

Retailers that are using display lighting to illuminate cosmetics, fashions or fresh foods are interested in the quality of the light and how it renders their products. This not only requires high levels of light, but also CCT and CRI control. Since retailers like the long life and energy saving of LEDs, they desire an LED type of solution. However, color control is difficult at the LED level and CRI is typically around 70 for most white LED emitters. This invention allows better control of the quality of the color emitted from the LED fixture and also allows higher CRI levels closer to the requirements of 95+, without the use of higher priced and less available high CRI LEDs. It also acts as a diffuser that allows better spread of the light from the LEDs on the target products.
