Abstract

Due to space limitation, we design a carrier which can install HDD, fan and fan interposal card in one carrier. And we also have a fool-proofing design on this carrier to prevent user from inserting the HDD in a wrong way. We also have auxiliary ejection spring to help to replace HDD. This carrier also have a fan installed on it and can allow our HDDs installed in deeper place. The user can pull out this carrier without a risk of cutting the fingers.

In DataPower 9004, a brand-new mechanical design model, we got one series problem in BBFV sample.
1. Our SFF HDD module is easier to cut user's finger when they want to pull out the HDD tray.
2. Our space is not allow us to use lever type of HDD tray
3. We need to put a fan unit in front of the HDD tray
4. No space to do cable route and easy to let cable get cut when we swap the module

1. Feature 1: Integrate HDD carrier - integrate HDD, fan and cable-less design in one carrier ==> prevent to get finger cut and no more cable route issue again.
2. Feature 2: Fool-proofing key design ==> prevent the user insert the HDD front-side-rear
3. Feature 3: Easy to release HDD and with auto eject feature ==> easier to replace the HDD

In our old design configuration, there are some shortcomings as below (refer to fig

Fan cable route issue - It is hard to do the cable route W/O cable arm and in such a narrow space. Especially for a CRU module, how to teach customer do the cable route?
