Abstract

This artical proposes a system and method to support the conference status visualization on IP phone without computer required. The user could dial in with a registered PIN as identity. The conference status could be shown on the phone directly. When an attendee is speaking, his ID/name will be highlighted. Furthermore, it includes the speech recognition engine to help recogize the speaking user when mutiple users are using one phone.

System and method to show conference status with IP phone

1. Background: What is the problem solved by your invention? Describe known solutions to this problem (if any). What are the drawbacks of such known solutions, or why is an additional solution required? Cite any relevant technical documents or references.

In a tele conference, it's not convenient to know who is attending and who is speaking. It causes much confusions and reduce the productivity a lot. There's some know solutions as below.

Prior art Description Reference Drawbacks Web Conference

All attendees attend the meeting with online web conference systems. In the conferen UI, attendees and speaker

will be shown.

Sametime Web Conference

Computer is required for the attendees to attend the meeting. However, in many situations, computer is not available, e.g. in travelling.

Rendezvous is a system that exploits the flexibility of Voice over IP (

VoIP) to

provide new audio services for IBMers. The visual meeting window of Rendezvous is an ICT plug-in that integrates

with Sametime and the

BluePages directory to provide convenient IM awareness of callers and background information.

Computer is required for attendees to show the conference status in addition to the phone too. Moreover, the IM client is required which brings more integration overhead for implementation and deployment.

Therefore, an additional solution to support conference status with phone only is required in most mobile situations.

2. Summary of Invention: Briefly describe the core idea of your invention (saving the details for questions #3 below). Describe the advantage(s) of using your invention instead of the known solutions described above.

This disclosure proposes a system and method to support the conference status visualization on IP phone without computer required. The user could dial in with a registered PIN as identity. The conference status could be shown on the phone directly. When an attendee is speaking, his ID/name

will be highlighted. Furthermore, it includes the speech recognition engine to help recogize the

speaking user when mutiple users are using one phone.

The novelty points of our solution include

The conference client is on the phone. The attendee could view the status as long as he has a phone in hand.

The speech regonition engine could regcognize who's speaking when mutiple users are using one phone. Since the system support attendees using one phone to input multiple PINs, the recognition rate will be improved significantly by matching the speaker's voice features to the limited speech model corpus, i.e. only attendees using that same phone's model, not all registered users',
