Methods of collecting serviceability information and sending it to a support organization is not new. Solutions such as our own IBM Support Assistant have existed for some time.

However these solutions require to be installed , configured, and maintained. Other solutions such as *Lotus Notes System Diagnostic are built into the product but may be required to be upgraded in order to keep current with the needs of the support organization. We quickly realized that the overhead associated the existing solutions was
deterring adoption of them. Now we are proposing a mechanism of collecting serviceability information (logs, environmental information, etc.) from the user selecting a web link where only one click is required (or two to include a license agreement).

This mechanism is launched from the web by selecting a link sent to them by the support
organization. It will collect information relevant to the serviceability of a product using the default options and transmit it to a support organization . The benefit of this method rather than existing methods is that it reduces the overhead to the user . The only user action is one click on the initial link or two...
