     N-(3-ethynylphenyl)-6,7-bis(2-methoxyethoxy)-4-quinazolinamine(referred as "ERL") hydrochloride, of the following formula

is marketed under the trade name TARCEVA® by OSI pharmaceuticals for treatment of patients with locally advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) after failure of at least one prior chemotherapy regimen.

Crystalline form of ERL HCl was found and is described herein below.

    Crystalline form of ERL HCl is characterized by data selected from the group consisting of: a powder XRD pattern with peaks at about 5.7, 9.8, 10.4, 11.4, 22.8, 28.0, 28.6,
29.3, 29.6 and 34.5
± 0.2 degrees 2-theta; a PXRD pattern depicted in Figure 1, and combination thereof

     The above crystalline ERL hydrochloride can be further characterized by data selected from the group consisting of: a FTIR spectrum having bands at about 3276, 2991, 2898, 2820, 2712, 1628, 1604, 1591, 1566, 1507, 1477, 1438, 1424, 1408, 1362, 1305, 1284, 1259, 1237, 1215, 1200, 1163, 1119, 1095, 1069, 1052, 1022, 938, 891, 873, 849, 779, 742, 724, 677, 651, 617, 586 and 577 ± 4 cm-1 ; a FTIR spectrum depicted in Figure 2, and combination thereof.
