Abstract

A method and apparatus for supporting users by interacting with the users in their natural language in speech form is disclosed. A request for information from a user in a speech form in a natural language is processed by the apparatus i.e. mobile communication device. A solution is then provided for the request in speech form in the natural language to the user by the apparatus.

Disclosed is a method and apparatus for supporting the users by interacting with them in their natural language in speech form. The method involves receiving a request for information from a user in speech form in natural language on a mobile communication device. The request is processed and a solution is provided to the user in speech form in the natural language, by the mobile communication device.

Fig. 1 illustrates a method and apparatus for enabling interaction between a user and a mobile communication device in a natural language. The mobile communication device may be used as a personal companion by a user for providing various solutions. The mobile communication device supports multiple natural languages for interacting with the user. Examples of the mobile communication device include personal computer, mobile phone, telephone, Geographical Positioning System (GPS) device, media player and so forth. The mobile communication device receives a request for information from the user in speech form in a natural language which is preferred by the user. The user may select several attributes of the speech form like voice, age, gender, personality, accent, grammatical style etc. The mobile communication device may also include a speech based security lock for providing access.

of the request into a text form. The translator utilizes a speech-to-text conversion module for converting the request into the text form. The text form of the request is then transformed using a query composer into an executable query. The executable query is then processed in a query processor for providing solutions to the user. If the query processor is not able to process the executable query, the query processor generates request for additional information from the user.
