Unified Review Framework

Main Idea

BACKGROUND

Review data are very useful in evaluating products and services, which are very important for users to compare and determine what products they want to purchase or services to subscribe to. It is often observed that users will choose from multiple sites to collect information regarding specific items,. The heterogeneity of service providers and product distributors makes it very difficult for users to make a fair comparison in a limited time. Furthermore, some review data are less informative and even contain spam data; and different review models are employed by different review and rating systems.

We propose a system that can proactively find useful and high quality reviews from the Web and make them public to non-expert users using information retrieval techniques, based on which more sophisticated services such as recommendation; product quality evaluation and location and cross product comparisons can be provided.

SOLUTION OVERVIEW

Highly open and extensible community and information centric review platforms can enable continuous enrichment of innovative services and informational insights from user and service-provider communities. Unified review and rating framework offers an open platform for product and service vendors to create communities of interest for their customers, as well as competitors and partners, to support the end-users decisions with regard to the product purchase and service subscription.

The invention addresses the problems described in Section 1 by providing the following functionality:

Unified review model

1.

Product and services taxonomies

2.

Search and comparison of products and services

3.

Review knowledge consisting of seamlessly integrated current product/vendor and review

4.

and community content (forums, chats, web-based content, manuals, real-time discussion groups, existing review systems)

Analytics for reactive and proactive use of reviews

5.

An extensible underlying service-oriented platform, allowing for deployment of (3rd party)

6.

review-based services (such as predictions based on the purchase of old products, proactive cross-sell and up-sell, reviews of company and brand, clustering users based on reviews).

Marketplace for third party service providers to offer additional services based on review

7.
