Disclosed is a method for providing audio files corresponding to navigation directions. The method (as shown in Fig. 1) involves, parsing a query for navigation directions and subsequently encoding textual data corresponding to the navigation directions into multiple audio files using a speech processor. The audio files may be encoded in MP3 format or any other suitable formats. The multiple audio files are speech representations of a sequence of navigation events corresponding to the navigational directions. The graphical data comprising of images, corresponding to the navigation events are embedded into the multiple audio files in the form of ID3 tags. Subsequently, a playlist is created from the multiple audio files in a XML based format, such as RSS or ATOM. Thereafter, the playlist may be published on a server as a podcast. A standard podcast catcher application may be used to subscribe and download the podcast.

Further, an audio file from the playlist may be played based on location of a user or based on an event scheduled in proximity of a user. Hence, audio such as songs, information specific to a location may be provided along with navigational directions.
