Abstract

Persons who are hard of hearing often use hearing aids (HA) for supporting their residual hearing ability. Before they can use a hearing aid, it has to be fitted by an audiologist according to the individual hearing loss profile of the person. Currently there is no possibility to program or upgrade the HA with additional features over a wireless interface especially by the patient themselves. Whenever patients are looking for an update or additional features they need to change the hearing aid. This requires a new consultation and fitting process with the audiologist. It is proposed to establish a unique serial number for each hearing aid device that helps the patients by upgrading their hearing aid. This serial number will match to the patient hearing loss profile which is ascertain during the first fitting by the audiologist. After the first fitting, the patient can program his hearing aid by himself, whenever he feels the need for additional features. The self-program process can be done as follows (Figure 1):
