Today web communities are growing everywhere and they attracting many users all over the place (facebook, discussion forums, web 2.0 apps, ...). Many products are supporting the econcept of communities (Sametime, Lotus Quickr, Lotus Connections.WebSphere Portal). It is getting quite difficult to find the right community, which is relevant for a user's needs or interests. It is also difficult for a community to find suitable members, which should be invited to join the community.

This disclosure proposes to automate the invitation to join (or leave) a community based on location aspects. For instance a Black Forest Hiking Community, can define its relevance for a certain geographical area. The community and its information of relevance is registered by the community provider.

An individual user can travel with a mobile internet client, like a PDA, which is equipped with a GPS receiver. The user has subscribed generic community services by the community provider. Once he enters the region, in which a certain community is relevant, he will receive an invitation to join that community. Once he leaves that region, he will receive a suggestion to leave the community.
