Credit statement reconciliation using camera phone photos

A program is disclosed that helps customers reconcile monthly credit cards statements using photos taken at the time of purchase. Customers send photos taken on a camera phone to the credit card company via a phone application. A program imbeds the image into the customer's on-line bill.

Developing this solution came about due to the difficulty many people have reconciling credit card bills at the end of the month with purchases they made early in the month. The purchases associated with some of the line items may have been forgotten, especially if it was a single item from a vendor who lists an obscure name on the bill.

Currently this issue can be resolved by saving receipts throughout the month and then search through them when there are questions about the bill. This requires keeping track of all the receipts associated with these purchases. Alternately, the vendor in question or the credit card company can be contacted, but that takes up valuable time. Even with that solution, the date the credit card company has for the transaction may not match the actual purchase date.

In response to this issue comes the following solution. It involves a combination of software to run on the phone that allows photos taken of items to be sent to the credit card company with a timestamp, and software at the credit card company that will reconcile the times of these photos with the time of purchases received.
