Quite frequently, a user would go off line and may not have access to the Internet for a short period. For example, user takes a trip does not have internet access at the airport and on the airplane, or while taking a child to dance class, the user does not have internet access during the class. It is important to maximize the user's productivity during the off line period if the user chooses to continue using a computer during that time frame.
Sample user case 1:
The user is planning a trip to another company site to discuss a new software product. He knows that he won't have internet access during his travel time and he would like to use his computer even while it is off line. He registers with his calendar system that he has 2 off line intervals (for example 9/20 Sunday 9 AM - 1 PM, 9/25 Friday 1 PM to 5 PM) that he needs his system prepared to enable him to maximize his productivity during these times. The system can analyze the user's computer usage, the expected down load time, and down load the data in advance to support the user working in off line mode.
1. The system needs to determine a good time to perform the down load activities. For example, the Friday afternoon before 9/20 is the best time to perform the down load activities as the user is planning to work that day (which can be determined by the user's calendar system) and the user typically doesn't use the internet on Saturdays.
Normally, the user logs off at 5 PM on Friday
afternoon and the down load software predicts it can take up to 30 minutes to down load the data, thus it is best to start the down load activity at around 4 PM.
