Method and system for indicating availability of an employee for communicating via an Instant Messenger (IM) application

Disclosed is a method and system for indicating availability of an employee to communicate with members belonging to multiple projects via an Instant Messenger (IM) application. The employee working on multiple projects divides the working hours of a day and allocates the working hours to the multiple projects. The allocation of the working hours to the multiple

projects represents the employee's availability to communicate via the IM application with

members belonging to the respective projects. The availability is indicated with a time slot allocated for each project. In a scenario, the employee may allocate a single time slot to multiple

projects. Further, the employee may indicate an order of preference amongst the multiple

projects during the time slot. Additionally, the employee may allocate a time slot which may

exceed beyond the employee's working hours of a day. The allocation performed by the employee is stored in the employee's profile.

The employee's profile is made available to members of multiple projects. As a result, the members can view the employee's profile to know the employee's availability. The employee's

profile is made accessible to the members of the multiple projects even when the employee is not

active on the IM application. Further, the members may be alerted regarding the time slots allocated by the employee.

The method and system disclosed is illustrated with the following example. Consider an employee involved in developing three different products: Product 1, Product 2 and Product 3. As illustrated in Table 1, the employee divides the working hours of a day into multiple time slots and allocates the multiple time slots to the three products respectively.
