Abstract

The tool de-compiles the Microsoft Compiled HTML Help (chm) file and generates a Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA) map for Java application programming interfaces (API) reference documentation. The generated DITA map is used to generate an Extensible Markup Language (XML) file, the table of contents (toc.xml) that provides the navigation for the references. The generated Extensible Markup Language (XML) files for the table of contents provide the capability to integrate the application programming interface (API) reference content with the rest of the Eclipse on-line Help. As a result, the generated navigation provides users the capability to search for a specific package, class, interface, method, field, and constructor.

Tool and method to generate Eclipse on -line Help Java references navigation from a Microsoft Compiled HTML Help file

Disclosed is a tool and method for Java application programming interfaces (API) documentation to generate a table of contents (TOC) navigation for Eclipse on-line Help when the only source available is a Microsoft Compiled HTML Help (chm) file. The novelty is that the disclosed process and tool generates from Microsoft Compiled HTML Help files a Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA) map.

The generated Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA) map organizes and lists the Java application programming interfaces (API) reference packages and classes/ interfaces for Eclipse on-line Help navigation.

The tool resolves the Java application programming interfaces (API) reference search capability and integration of this documentation with Eclipse on-line Help system when the only source available is a Microsoft Compiled HTML Help file.
