Abstract

For handling a business scenario, a set of software products are typically installed and configured on multiple systems. Identifying the list of products to be installed and deploying the solution are problems faced by Information Technology (IT) Architects and system administrators. A lot of time and resources are typically wasted by re-installing a large product when a compatible version is already available on the target systems. This article provides a complete methodology of deploying solutions while leveraging the software products that are already installed on the system, for a given business scenario.

For handling a business scenario, a set of software products are typically installed and configured on multiple systems. Identifying the list of products to be installed and deploying the solution are problems faced by Information Technology (IT) Architects and system administrators. A lot of time and resources are typically wasted by re-installing a large product when a compatible version is already available on the target systems.

Most of the known solution deployments are prescribed and work only when they are deployed on a clean machine(s). But, there is a need to deploy a solution harvesting the existing resources (

products).

This article provides a complete methodology of deploying solutions while leveraging the software products that are already installed on the system, for a given business scenario.

Typical provisioning products work in client-server mode and requires an agent to be installed on the client machine. Additionally, they don't have the ability to detect or re-use pre-existing

product(s) or suggest products that are required for implementing the business scenario.

For a given business scenario, the required products are aligned in advance for a given topology (proof of concept system or production system). The proposed Solution Launcher Wizard includes the intelligence and the logic to dynamically detect the list of products to be installed and then deploy the solution.
