Abstract

A method and system to recapture data that is lost during transmission of the data from a source system to a target system is disclosed. More specifically, the method and system for recapturing data records that are lost during transmission of the data records from the source system to the target system in a ticketing system is disclosed.

Method and System for Recapturing Data Lost During Transmission of the Data from Source System to Target System

Disclosed is a method and system for recapturing data that is lost in transmission of the data from a source system to a target system.

The Figure 1 illustrates a system for recapturing data that is lost during transmission of the data from a source system to a target system.

Figure 1

The method and system identifies the data that is lost by reviewing a primary key associated with the data in the source system. The primary key is then compared with a primary key associated with the data that is present in the target system. Based on this comparison process, the delta of the data that is lost during transmission in a particular time period is determined. The method and system then logs the lost data by keys used in a database table and set a flag associated with the lost data as "Missing". The target system then runs a "Reclaim Process". The "Reclaim Process" extracts the missing data from the source system based on the table where the missing data was logged. The extracted data is then moved to the target system. Thus, after the completion of the "Reclaim Process", the source system and the target system contain the same data. Upon completion of the "Reclaim Process", the database table (the table where the missing data was logged) sets a flag associated with reclaimed data as "Processed". Thus, the reclaimed data is made ready for referencing and processing.

For example, a target system is a business intelligence tool and 10,000 tickets are to be moved from source system A, source system B and source system C to the target business intelligence system. The 10,000 tickets are extracted by a process based on data that was updated within the last 5 minutes as the criteria to move the tickets.
