Search Results Embedded in TOC

This invention relates to text searches within a single document. The current search results of documents are presented in a myopic manner. They allow the user to skip through the document with the 'next' button jumping to the next result location. The user views the search result within its surrounding text. A method is needed to present a higher level view of the search results and its relevance and location within the broader document.

This invention allows the search results to be presented in a telescopic sectional view. That is, the user can select surrounding context level of the search results.

Even Adobe* will only present the results with associated sub-title. For example, a user desires to find password length when using LDAP, and searches on "password". The Adobe results may yield:

  24.c. Security Considerations............
...The password length maximum is 256
32.d. Security Considerations ...........
The password length maximum is 8

The above Adobe results are still myopic and the user cannot distinguish which results relate to more general topic of LDAP.

The idea of this invention is to provide a search option which allows the user to telescope the broadness or narrowness of the sections or subsections presented along with the search results.

In this invention, if the user may select "Headings 2" as the scope setting for presenting search results. Then all "Heading 2" and lower would be presented as they relate to the search results. Therefore, using the same example in which the user wanted information on password length in an LDAP configuration, they could easily see the first result would discuss that topic.

24. LDAP Configurations

24.a. Basic LDAP Install

24.b. Security Considerations............

The password length maximum is 256

24.c. More LDAP Stuff

32. Default configuration

32.a Configuration Files

32.b. Security Considerations

The password length maximum is 8

32.c. More Default Stuff

The current art is Word** which we all know provides the next to jump thru the document displaying the entire text, and does *not* allow of scoping out the text body and only displaying and adjustable section level.
