There are aggregated search engines that provide a front-end interface to search across numerous data repositories, such as a SQL DB, email, file system, the web, a document management system, defect tracking, knowledge management, etc. All of those solutions are stand-alone applications provided by various venders. With C&RM's Full-Text search capability, such as *ClearQuest, or *Jazz, such a feature can be provided through C&RM's, e.g. ClearQuest 7.1 Full-Text search technology. In effect users of a C&RM product, are now able to search not only records stored within the C&RM database, but also any other external data source -- through one common interface, the C&RM interface, such as ClearQuest or Jazz.
ClearQuest 7.1's Full-Text search feature works by indexing ClearQuest records. Records that are indexed are searchable through ClearQuest 7.1's Full-Text search engine. To index any external data source, all that's needed is to push the data to ClearQuest or add it to ClearQuest's search engine index. For example, to allow ClearQuest to search on tech notes (in addition to it's own records), this can be accomplished by creating a stateless record-type of "TechNotes" in ClearQuest. Any time a tech note is added, or updated, at the external data source of where tech notes are stored, the tech note is pushed to ClearQuest for addition to ClearQuest's index. Once the da...
