Abstract

Basic Operator Panels (BOPs) of e.g. frequency inverters which only have a single set button to choose the displayed parameter can fail to inform the user about the chosen parameter. If several different parameters are given on the display, but no units or names of the parameters are displayed, it is useful to support the user with an integrated memory aid that shows which parameter mode is chosen. A solution is proposed which gives the user information about the current parameter mode by displaying additional information on a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD).

Basic Operator Panels (BOPs) of e.g. frequency inverters which only have a single set button to

choose the displayed parameter can fail to inform the user about the chosen parameter.

If several different parameters are given on the display, but no units or names of the parameters are

displayed, it is useful to support the user with an integrated memory aid that shows which parameter

mode is chosen. A solution is proposed which gives the user information about the current parameter

mode by displaying additional information on a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD).

In the following three methods for displaying the parameter mode are proposed:
1) If free segments are given, a number of segments corresponding to the number of

possible parameters is used at the right side of the LCD screen in order to indicate these

parameter modes. This solution is depicted in Figure 1.
2) If free segments are given, one segment flashes in different ways. The number of flashing

manners is corresponding to the number of parameters. This solution is depicted in Figure

2.
3) If free segments are given, the index of the chosen parameter is directly shown by e.g.

"L1", "L2", etc. on a seven-segment LCD to indicate the chosen parameter. When the user

presses the set button, the parameter mode is shown in a selected area for a short period
