Abstract

Current audio shoes of BTE hearing aids (BTE: Behind The Ear) are incompatible with different battery sizes and are also incompatible with different hearing aids (see Figure 1). However, there are a high number of battery sizes and hearing aid models available on the market.

Modular Audio Shoe for Different Battery Sizes

Idea: Markus Heerlein, SG-Singapore; Jeffrey Toh, SG-Singapore; Chris Tan, SG-Singapore

Current audio shoes of BTE hearing aids (BTE: Behind The Ear) are incompatible with different battery

sizes and are also incompatible with different hearing aids (see Figure 1). However, there are a high

number of battery sizes and hearing aid models available on the market.

To solve this problem, a battery adapter is proposed which fits into the battery compartments of any

devices and enables an electrical contact from the BTE to a proposed modular audio shoe module

(see Figure 2). All components and parts needed for such an audio shoe can be placed in a separate

uniform audio shoe module. This can be attached to the BTE or the battery adapter itself.

The main advantage of the proposed solution is that only one audio shoe for all hearing aid models is

necessary, independent from battery size or form factor. The adapter of each individual battery door is

easy and cost efficient to produce. Additionally all efforts and costs for the development of a new

audio shoe has only to be done once.
