Disclosed is a method of providing one or more hot keys for fully expanding windows in either a horizontal direction or a vertical direction.

The method disclosed herein, provides one or more hot keys on a Graphical User Interface (GUI) window, for e.g. an operating system window. The method involves, performing an action on one or more hot keys for expanding a window to achieve either a maximum height or a maximum width. This function is a partial function of the typical full-screen expansion hot key and is implemented by retaining the code for expanding the window in one direction and commenting out the code for the expansion in the other direction.

In order to expand a window along a horizontal direction or a vertical direction, a "single click" or a "double click" on the hot key may be performed. A single click may expand the window in a horizontal direction and a double click may expand the window in a vertical direction or vice versa. Alternately, the left mouse button or the right mouse button may be pressed on the hot key to expand a window along a horizontal direction or a vertical direction. Further, the action performed on a single hot key along different directions may be dynamically changed according to user preferences.
