Disclosed is a universal remote control having a touch screen LCD display presenting a front image of an original remote control with all the buttons of the original remote control are shown and defined correspondingly. Typically, when people try to program their universal remote control, they always find it difficult to match the buttons exactly on the original remote control to the universal remote control. Thereafter, when people use the universal remote control, they have to remember which button is equivalent to the one on the original remote control.

The universal remote control as disclosed herein has a touch screen LCD display and a camera. Alternatively, the universal remote control may have an input port to receive images of the original remote control. Thus, to program a TV remote control into the universal remote control, the user first marks "TV" on a device button of the universal remote control. Thereafter, the user takes a front picture of the TV remote control. As the button layout of the TV remote control is shown in the universal remote control's LCD screen, the user begins to assign each button accordingly.
