Abstract

A method and system for maintaining synchronization between mirrored document revisions in an Electronic Document Management System (EDMS) and a non-compatible repository is disclosed. The synchronization is maintained even after the deletion of document revisions from the non-compatible repository.

Method And System For Maintaining Synchronization Between Mirrored Document Revisions In An Electronic Document Management System (EDMS) And A Non-Compatible Repository

Disclosed is a method and system for maintaining synchronization between mirrored document revisions in an Electronic Document Management System (EDMS) and a non-compatible repository.

In an instance, a mechanism is defined for propagating a deletion of one or more document revisions from a non-compatible repository to a mirrored document revision history in the EDMS. The propagation of the deletion results in the removal of one or more revisions from the mirrored document revision history in the EDMS, thereby reflecting the current state of a revision history in the non-compatible repository. The mirrored document revision history in the EDMS remains synchronized with the non-compatible repository even after the deletion of one or more document revisions from the non-compatible repository. This enhancement improves usability as a user does not attempt to retrieve contents of the one or more document revisions that has been deleted from the non-compatible repository. In addition, this enhancement provides a way to address records management compliance issues as metadata of the document revision history is removed from the EDMS after the deletion of the corresponding document revision from the non-compatible repository.

In another instance, one or more mechanisms are defined for exporting document revision deletion requests from a non-compatible repository. Thereafter, the deletion requests are imported into the EDMS before deleting one or more of individual document revisions, multiple document revisions, or an entire document revision history from the native repository of the EDMS. In the first mechanism,

which is an explicit

mechanism for exporting document revision deletion requests, the deletion export request contains references to specific document revisions that may have been deleted from the non-compatible repository. The references are specifically marked as deletion requests, i.e., distinguished from import requests. In addition, the import system may be familiar with the references which include single revisions history, multiple revisions history and complete revisions history. Thereafter, the EDMS deletes all revisions included in the export request that are mirrored by the EDMS. This explicit mechanism is applicable to the non-compatible repository wherein an export agent is either cap...
