An Integrated User Interface Device for Operating Control Systems in a Vehicle

An Integrated user interface device is disclosed for operating control systems in a vehicle.

The control systems in the vehicle manage various sub-systems in the vehicle. The sub-systems can be for example, a music system and an HVAC system. Usually, the sub-systems have separate user interfaces which are located at different positions based on design of the vehicle. Due to different positions of user interfaces a driver of the vehicle is required to divert his attention from driving to such user interfaces for operating the sub-systems.

In accordance with the integrated user interface device disclosed herein, the control systems for each of the sub-systems are configured to be operated by a single integrated user interface device.

In an instance, the integrated user interface device is located at a steering wheel of the vehicle. This facilitates the driver to operate the sub-systems without diverting his attention from driving.

The integrated user interface device includes a thumb-operated device along with one or more clickable buttons. The thumb-operated device (similar to a joystick, track-ball, or eraser-head mouse) is integrated with a display, such as an in-dash LCD screen or heads-up display, and a menu system to provide access to the vehicle control systems.
