Disclosed is a method and system for sorting emails. Typically, a user sorts emails in an inbox in order to prioritize and manage emails in the inbox. The emails are sorted using one or more fields provided by an email client. For example, the user may sort emails in the inbox by using multiple sorting fields such as, "From", "Subject", "Received", "Size of a Message" and "Importance" among others.

In accordance with the method and system disclosed herein, a user is provided with additional fields for sorting email such as a "read by date/time" and a "respond by date/time". These fields enable the user to sort emails in an inbox based on deadlines by which the user is required to act or respond to the emails.

Consider a scenario wherein a sender of an email specifies hard and/or soft deadlines while composing the email for a recipient. The information of such hard and/or soft deadlines may get associated with the fields "read by date/time" and "respond by date/time" as provided in accordance with the method and system.

Subsequently, when the recipient receives the email, the recipient may sort the emails using one or more of the fields "read by date/time" and "respond by date/time" in the inbox so as to keep a track of the emails with respect to their deadlines.
