Abstract

In most NC systems (NC: Numeric Control), MCP (Machine Control Panel) and NC controller are connected via a flat cable with a 50-pin connector, this solution is not convenient for plugging and unplugging. The level for the signals transmitted in flat cables is a TTL-compatible logic level (TTL: Transistor-Transistor Logic), therefore they are not suitable for long distance communication. Furthermore, the system applications are limited because MCP and NC controller have to be placed closely. Nowadays improved connections exist which use the CAN bus (CAN: Controller-Area Network) or the RS232 port (RS232: Recommended Standard 232) for the communication between MCP and CN controller. These solutions require MCU systems (MCU: MicroController Unit) in the MCP. This increases the complexity of the MCP architecture and therefore its manufacturing costs.
