Abstract

Abstract: Disclosed is a method and system to facilitate easy composition of short messages and to compress them further and to decompress in the mobile device. Composing messages on a mobile device in general is tiresome. Consequently, there is a demand for the systems to make composition easier. Also messages send across the mobile networks restricted to 160 characters per message. Consequently there is a demand for the system to compress the messages and allow the user to send more characters in a single short message. Our proposed system introduces Braille way of composing the message by just having 7 keys instead of multiple key traditional mobile keypads. Our proposal also includes the several ways of compressing the message so that it allows the user to send more characters in a single short message.

Our analysis [1] with the messages sent across twitter network gives us the better understanding of the most frequently used characters and words. So if we represent the character with less then 7-bits will give us more space to accommodate more characters in SMS.

Complexity in typing a particular letter with a single key representing multiple letters.

For example to type "r", one needs to press the same key three times in rapid succession and if one presses the key four times by mistake, the letter "r" will be missed. In order to get this letter again one has to press the key three more times.
