Method and System for Managing Systems by Normalizing Operation Model in an Integrated Framework

Disclosed is a method and system for normalizing operation implementation model for supporting an integrated server, storage, and network virtualized infrastructure environment. The method involves normalizing operations spanning across domains such as server, storage, network, energy, and security domains. The operations include resource management operations for all domains in an integrated framework.

For normalizing operations, a normalized operation implementation model is provided. In an exemplary implementation the normalized operation implementation model is implemented using Meta Object Facilities (MOFs). In accordance with the normalized operation implementation model, all operations are normalized in one or more categories.

Further, an operational model framework is provided as shown in figure. The operational model framework specifies functional scope and a rule-set for valid operations. The operational model framework may also include an extensibility model for adding new operations. Valid operations are implemented in a way to support transactional semantics, optimization, and sync/async semantics.

Figure

As illustrated in the figure, the operational model framework is governed by multiple MOFs. The multiple MOFs of the operational model framework may be categorized as, a framework MOF, resource operation MOFs, and resource specific MOFs.

The framework MOF defines structure, functional scope and a rule-set for valid operations. The framework MOF captures governing principles for the operational model framework thereby supporting only those operations that have legal functional
