Method and System for performing Product Search using Visual Images of Products

Abstract

A method and system for performing product search using visual images of products is disclosed.  The product may be searched by matching the visual images with the product.

Description

Disclosed is a method and system for performing product search using visual images of products.  The product may be searched by matching the visual images with the product.

In the disclosed method, a search engine analyzes each image fed by a user and uses data associated with each image to perform a product search.  The name of the image entered in the search engine indicates the product searched by the user.  The method initially identifies text to be extracted and then extracts the text.  Subsequently, it is determined whether the text can be used as a search term.  If the text can be used, then the text is used to build the search term.  However, if the text cannot be used, then the text may be kept as an optional search term.

Thereafter, the extracted texts may be used to identify the objects of interest.  For identifying the objects, initially the image is analyzed to identify objects that can be filtered out.  The filtered object is mapped to an actual database object set.  This is performed to identify objects of interest that assists in building the search.  Thereafter, it is determined whether the object can be used in the search term.  If the object can be used then the object is used to build the search term.  However, if the object cannot be used, then the object may be kept as an optional search term.  Once the search term is formed, the search term can be used to conduct image or video or website searching.

In an instance, the search engine may also have image shortcuts that can be used as an aid in searching.  The set of image shortcuts can show up on demand and can be used to build the search term.  Popular images that can be u...
