Disclosed is a method and system for performing anti-tagging on content of a page and restricting a placement of advertisements upon detecting anti-tags. The method involves anti-tagging of content of the page by providing tags/keywords to the content which are presented negatively. Upon performing the anti-tagging, the anti-tags are used to avoid placement of advertisements when a match is found between an advertisement subject keyword and an anti-tag on the content of a target page.

The method and system for anti-tagging may be performed on contents of articles, blogs, and forums. The anti-tagging may be performed by forum users, article editors, readers, and marketing specialists. The anti-tagging may be manually performed by owners/authors of the content. Alternatively, the anti-tagging may be dynamically performed by using an algorithm that analyzes the content for negative words associated with keywords in the content. The dynamic anti-tagging involves an automatic scanning of content at periodic intervals and manipulating a lexical database. Further, the lexical database is used to distinguish between nouns, verbs, adverbs, and adjectives. Subsequently, the lexical database creates a set of word phrases based on semantic relations. Thereafter, a score is generated for the words based on whether the words in the phrase are negative or positive and the number of occurrences of the words. Upon generating the score, a negative or positive flag is set on the words.
