Method and system for Communicating with a User Using a Unique Identifier

Disclosed is a method and system for locating a user and communicating with the user in a uniform manner using a unique identifier.

In accordance with the method and system disclosed herein, a user is associated with multiple communication tools, such as, synchronous and asynchronous communication tools. The synchronous communication tools may be, for example, phone, instant messaging, etc. whereas, the asynchronous communication tools may be, for example, email, social networking site, micro-blogs and the like.

In an instance, the system is implemented as a web-based service (hereinafter, "service"). Fig. 1 illustrates a block diagram of the system.

The system includes a registration application, a privacy manager, a mapping and routing application, a rule generation module, an information integration manager, and a database. The registration application is responsible for registering users with the service. The privacy manager is configured to manage privacy settings of the user. The mapping and routing application of the system is configured to manage identification of a user using a unique identifier and location of the user. The mapping and routing application is also configured for routing of various incoming communication requests to one or more communication tools associated with the user. Further, the system is in communication with the user and various external communication systems.

In order to avail the service, the user registers with the service. In response to registering, the registration application allocates a unique identifier to the user that is common to all the communication tools associated with the user. A web-application

hosted by the service acts as an interface for the external communication system

.

When a party wants to communicate with the user, the party may do so over any mode of communication or any communication tool using the unique identifier. The other party is not required to know any other personal details, apart from the unique identifier, to initiate a communication.

Fig. 2 illustrates a flow diagram of the method for communicating with user A using a unique identifier associated with the user. In an instance, User A is registered within the service and is assigned a unique identifier, "0123456789". Another User B wishes to communicate with User A. User A has to let User B know the unique identifier associated with User A.

example, email for communicating with User B. User B can send User A an email using the unique identifier in the email address as "0123456789@abcd.com", where "abcd.com" is hostname of the service. The system can route the email thus sent to other...
