Abstract

A method and system for triggering an alarm in a device based on a trigger time and motion of the device is disclosed. The trigger time may be a fixed period of time from the time the alarm is set. Alternatively, the trigger time may be a predetermined absolute time. The method and system monitors the motion of the device and triggers the alarm after the fixed period of time or at the predetermined time only if the motion of the device is determined to be stationary.

Method and System for Triggering an Alarm Based on Time and Motion

Disclosed is a method and system for triggering an alarm in a device based on a trigger time and motion of the device. The trigger time may be a fixed period of time from the time the alarm is set. Alternatively, the trigger time may be a predetermined absolute time. The device may include, for example, but not limited to, a device enabled with Global Positioning System, a mobile phone, gadgets embedded in a vehicle, a watch and a personal digital assistant.

The method and system monitors the motion of the device and triggers the alarm at the trigger time only if the motion of the device is determined to be stationary at the trigger time. However, if the device is not stationary at the trigger time, the method and system waits for a predefined amount of time for the device to be stationary. Thereafter, the alarm is triggered. The predefined amount of time may be configured by a user and ranges from few seconds to few minutes. When the fixed time is reached and the device is in a state of motion, for example, while driving, the method and system may delay the triggering of the alarm till a time when the device becomes stationary for a predetermined amount of duration. Once the device becomes stationary for the predetermined amount of duration, the method and system triggers the alarm.

In a scenario, the user sets an alarm for 3 PM to remind the user of taking medicines and sets the predefined amoun...
