Where drilling and completion fluids have been tagged by nano RFID tags ("Smart Dust") of differing particle sizes and ID's, these tags can be detected by downhole devices which measure fluids in situ, or during fluid sampling, either using LWD or wireline technology. technology.  These measurements can delineate invasion profiles and times / phases of invasion.

Description

If drilling or completion fluids have been tagged with nano RFID ("Smart Dust") of differing particle sizes and ID's, these particles will move into the formation fluids during the various stages of invasion of native formation fluids by alien fluids. With these particles in the formation, they can now be detected by wireline or LWD logging technologies and/or by downhole formation fluid sampling tools, also deployed in both LWD and wireline methods.

These tagged fluids can also be detected in samples at the surface, either at the rig, or in the laboratory.
