Method and System for Implementing a Uniform Prepaid Licensing Model for Software Applications

Disclosed is a method and system for implementing a uniform prepaid licensing model for multiple software applications. These software applications are subscribed by a user for a given time duration by prepaying an amount for the subscription. The method involves maintaining a uniform license with a prepaid account balance for all the software applications subscribed by the user. For activation/renewal of any of these software applications, the user is required to provide a secured key associated with the uniform license and an amount for activation/renewal of a software application. Based on validation of the secured key, the amount specified by the user is debited from the prepaid account balance and the software application is recharged with the amount.

A block diagram illustrating an environment for implementing the disclosed method and system is shown in Fig. 1.

The system includes a license portal (License Vendor's Site as shown in Fig. 1) for implementing a uniform licensing model for various software applications of a client. The license portal is capable of implementing the uniform licensing model for software applications in a home environment (End User's Env. As shown in Fig. 1) and for software applications in a corporate environment (Corporate Env. As shown in Fig. 1) as well. The license portal communicates with vendors of various software applications through secured communication channels to provide a uniform license for all the software applications subscribed by the client. The license portal also maintains a prepaid account balance of the uniform license, which is credited/debited upon activation/renewal of the software applications. The license portal includes various modules for implementing and managing the uniform license. A block diagram

The license portal establishes communication with a client through Client Communication Handler 104 upon receiving a request for activation/renewal of a software application. For activation/renewal of the software application the client is required to provide a secured key to the license portal through an interface at the client end. The secured key is a secret code corresponding to the uniform license, which may be provided to the client upon registering for the uniform license. For example, a secured key may be provided upon buying a prepaid voucher for the uniform license.

The secured key may be a combination of alphabets and numerals, for example, a 32 digit code. Apart from the secured key, the client is also required to provide an amount to be debited from the prepaid account balance for recharging of the software application.

As the client inputs the secured key, an Authentication Authorization Module 105 of the license portal authenticate...
