Abstract

Recently, a type of Mobile Code is becoming popular... that's Quick Response Code (QR Code). It is a dot-matrix code and is being heavily used in Japan in Advertising domain. Main advantages of QR code is the ability for a Mobile device to read and interpret the information quickly and optionally store it on the Mobile devices. This can be done without the need for a Bluetooth or Infrared transfer of data. This ability can be used extensively in the Collaboration domain for various usage.

Transfer of information from Collaboration Tools to Mobile Devices without using Bluetooth/Infrared.

Disclosed are the applications of QR Code* in collaboration domain:

Quick Response Code (QR Code). It is a dot-matrix code, looks something like this and is being heavily used in Japan in Advertising domain.

There are two aspects to the QR Code - a QR Code generator and a QR Code reader. Once the code 'X' is generated, it can be put on a paper printout / any display (e.g. LCD/CRT, etc.).

The imaging device with QR Code Reader installed, is held in front of the QR Code (paper printout / display), and in couple of seconds (or less), the code is recognized. We can use QR Code in collaboration domain to contain:

1. Business Card
2. Contact Sync from Blue Pages
3. URL/Email address
4. Location information
5. Calendar entries
6. Any alphanumeric text (not more than a few KBs).
7. Encrypted / Compressed Confidential Information - e.g.
8. Salary Figures
9. Contact Information on top of a Resume

And so on...

Here the invention describes the usage of QR Code in Collaboration domain for defined usage:
1) Contact Sync: If it is desired to have certain contact information on Mobile device directly from a Corporate Directory without having to store it on your local directory then

we could use QR Code for that purpose. For example, The Corporate directory could display the QR Code for the person data along with the entire person data, which then can be scanned by the Mobile Phone and stored as a contact. The camera in the Mobile phone could capture the QR Code and then interpret the information and give options to store the information. All this data is transferred without using Bluetooth or infrared.

2) Calendar: Similarly a calendar could display the QR Code for that invite, which can be then sca...
