A method and system for deleting an email body if the subject includes an "End of Message" (EOM) phrase is disclosed. The method reduces the size of the email and network bandwidth by automatically deleting signatures or text within the email if a user includes an or "end of message" phrase in the subject field of the email.

Typically, an email message is made up of a subject field and a body field. The subject field is displayed in a user's inbox, enabling the user to scan through the subjects and determine the type of message contained in the email. In current practice, for sending limited information in an email, the subject field alone may contain the message intended for the recipient with the body field of the email left blank. Thus, a user may include a phrase such as

or "end or message" in the subject field to indicate to the recipient that the email body is blank.

The method and system disclosed herein, sets a rule in an email client to delete text in an email body if the subject includes '

' or "end of message". The phrase '

' may be added to the end of the subject text in the subject field of the email. When the client detects the phrase'

' in the subject field, any text e.g. signature present in the body field is automatically deleted before sending the email. Further, when sending an email containing the phrase'
