Abstract

The invention addresses the following related problems: (1) determining when a change to an IT service management environment is particularly likely to cause subsequent problems, and (2) what problems or problem types one should be concerned about when implementing such changes. Known solutions are simply based on correlating problems with changes, primarily using free text-similarity or in the case when problem and change records have analogous fields, comparing these field values. Our invention takes this idea several steps further, beginning with the fact that when tickets have mentions of IT system management entities which can be deemed to be similar, we give the tickets a measure of this similarity.

6. Determine problems that arose from similar changes or likely arose from similar changes, based on mentions of the same or related CIs

(using CMDB relationship info) plus possibly other evidence (similarity of descriptions, root cause analysis data + proximity in time)
