Abstract

The current behavior of a file system can result in having a lot of application writes cached, that is not yet committed on disk. Committing this data on disk can result in write failures if array has run out of space. This is possible if array deploys on-demand allocation technique called thin provisioning. This invention solves this problem by using a "space reservation" API invoked by FS on array for reserving space for uncommitted writes.
