Usual efficient capture of CO2 in MeOH production units is possible up to 85-90% at large costs from the flue gases. With the hereafter system of an oxy combustion heater integrated with an ATR based methanol plant, the full CO2 capture can be achieved using only the normal CO2 removal required for production purposes and no recovery unit is required for the residual fuel CO2. The only additional investment is in the increased size of the Air Separation Unit and in the burner design. This will allow the recovery of CO2 without significant cost both with respect to initial investment and as in variable operation cost.
