Method and System for Rearranging a Menu Based on User Behavior on a Pervasive Device

Disclosed is a method and system for rearranging a menu based on user behavior on a pervasive device. Pervasive devices such as mobile phones, personal digital assistants (PDA) are widely used because of their portability, flexibility of use and small size. However small size of the pervasive devices also poses some significant challenges as the area for display may not always be sufficient for displaying objects to a user.

The present method and system offers different methods of dynamically rearranging a menu based on user behavior on a pervasive device. A user is enabled to customize the display of menu options on a pervasive device based on preferences of the user.

According to an instance of the invention, a user is able to assign different positions of the display of the pervasive device with different preferences for placement of menu options. For example, a user may assign the highest preference to the top position of the display. Alternatively the user may assign the highest preference to the leftmost position of the display which decreases moving towards the rightmost position. Additionally, a user may also assign a fixed position to a menu option for display. For example, a user may choose to always display a particular menu option such as, "preference" at the top most position.

Additionally, the menu may be displayed on the pervasive device based on different criteria. The pervasive device monitors user behavior corresponding to different menu options and rearranges the menu options based on past history of usage. Menu items which are accessed mor...
