Method to make resources available in timely based in cluster environment

A

resources online to support the successful operation of one or more applications, with the end goal of keeping the supported applications highly available. Keeping applications highly available means that they are started and fully operational and accessible by the end user as much as possible, with less than some small percentage of overall down tim

.

Assume the application needs to be online only for particular period of time or if the service provided by an application shoul

be available only for particular period of time, then the admin has to manually perform these operations like enabling service provided by the application or start the application which provided the required service. Currently user has to manually perform the enable/disabling the services provided by the application over a period of time.

This idea allows user to configure times in which the resources should be made available for use or enable the service provided by the application for the specified period of time.

This invention proposes a way to make the resources available or service provided by the application available only for the specified period of time in a cluster environment. This is accomplished by allowing user to specify the uptime for resources. Since a set of resources will be managed as a group (here referred to as a "Resource Group") in cluster environment one can specify the uptime for the Resource Group.

Consider an example.

times. Since the application does not need much resource in the night times, one can pull the resources (an application or services provided by application) from the node on which the application is running. During morning times again these resources should be allocated to that node so that the application can efficiently use the resources available.

Consider another example.

of time as per the requirement. Say from 1am to 5am, Service 1-20 should be enabled. From 5am to 10am Services 20-40 should be enabled and so on. In current solution user needs to manually run few commands to enable/disable the services provided by the application.

This invention provides a way to automate the above mentioned problems by letting user to configure uptimes for Resource Groups.

1. For example consider an application high availability product, which makes sure that the application and resource provide

to it are always up and running. HA manages Application and the resources which the application depends on.
