Abstract

The filter is comprised of a stent body which anchors the filter in position, legs which are spring biased toward the cylinder of the stent and a clip which temporarily prevents the legs from spring into the cylinder of the stent. The stent body and the legs may be made of a slow degrading alloy like pure iron. The clip may be made of a fast degrading material like a polymer or magnesium metal alloy.

In use, the filter will be implanted.  When the clip degrades, afthort amount of time, the legs will spring to the wall of the vessel and eventually become encapsulated with the stent portion of the filter.  Over a longer period of time, the body will become encapsulated by endothelium and eventually degrade as well.
