Earwax and other waste collected in the ear-hook of a BTE hearing aid (BTE: Behind The Ear) lower

the acoustic performance and corrode the hearing instrument.

Up to now, the affected components are replaced. Meanwhile, the BTE hearing aid cannot be used by

the patient, since the replacement process is time-consuming.

In the following a novel solution is proposed where a magnet is integrated into the ear-hook to simplify

the cleaning. It is proposed to integrate a tube-shaped magnet placed between the ear-hook and the

damper or filter. The damper or filter is then held within the ear-hook by magnetic force. The ear-hook

is provided with the magnet by insert molding, see Figure 1. Earwax or other waste in the metal

damper or filter can be easily removed by using a tool such as a clipper. Therefore, a small gap for

removal is located at the corner of the magnet, see Figure 2.

With this solution, the metal damper can be easily removed for cleaning or replacement. One

advantage is to avoid the replacement of the entire ear-hook. Thus, less effort for service is needed.
