Within many web-based social networking and photo sharing environments, private

information is open to unwanted public display. Specifically, pictures of a person could

be shared online and/or tagged with their name without their permission.

There are known solutions to this problem; however, the following drawbacks have

been identified:

Current Solution Drawbacks

Removing Photograph Usually this can only be done by the person who uploaded the photo

An individual has no control over what is uploaded

Removing the tag from photograph The photograph remains on the

Internet

Altering the image (1) Removing the color to alter the image does not satisfy the need to remove the photograph from the Internet

The disclosed solution is a software (SW) application that allows an individual to identify

an image in a photograph and grey-out/alter that particular image without distorting the

entire photograph.

Assuming the use of a SW application:
1. The user identifies a photo image
2. The user specifies a particular image within the photo that can be identified as a

personal entity (e.g., a picture of oneself)

o User can use a selection feature to highlight an area in the photo o User can use a tag set by the originator to identify the area to be

altered/removed from the photo
3. The image is then verified (via SW feature) by comparing it to the user's profile

picture or some other viable source (e.g., live image...
