Abstract

Currently, in runtime, in one process instance, some nodes will be routed more than one time. For example, nodes in loop structure. Current process server product just can generate real time process flow ichnography diagram. End user only can see the latest status of the node, but have no idea what to happen before in the process at the node. So advanced process graph is needed to deliver a way to show sufficient information about each step of process procedure. Also that can provide detail and dynamic real time monitor to business process. Disclosure here is to implement hierarchical real time monitoring of dynamic business process.

1. Background

Currently, in runtime, in one process instance, some nodes will be routed more than one time.
For example, nodes in loop structure. Current process server product just can generate real time
process flow ichnography diagram. End user only can see the latest status of the node, but have
no idea what to happen before in the process at the node.

Such as below simplified process in banking account opening system which has 4 process nodes:
Request, Fill table, Review and Completed. In one request process, customer and bank staff have
couple of back and forth action for completing the request table.

Detail procedure seen in Fig. 1.
1. Customer deliver request. As below step 1.
2. Customer filled table, bank staff starts review. As below step 2.
3. Bank Staff found some mistake on the table, give back to customer to refine again. As below
step 3.

4. Customer deliver and bank staff review ping-panged for another 3 times as below step 4~10.
5. Bank staff accepts the qualified table, and process completed. As below step 11.
All steps have business data change.

In current process product, such as WebSphere Process Server (WPS), finally, end user just can
see below process flow diagram in Fig. 2. In each node, only latest data can be viewed. As a
result, we just can see process instance has taken step 1, 10 and 11. But we have no way to know
middle steps (step 2~9).
